Working in conjunction with Bournemouth University we are delighted to announce dates in 2022-23 for the Foundation In General Practice Nursing (FGPN) programme.

This 40 credit Unit can be completed at Degree or Masters Level and provides the GPN with the necessary treatment room skills to fulfil the GPN role, whilst working in the Practice.

This is a great opportunity for any nurse considering a Primary Care career.

GPN PG Cert Primary Care - Level 7

The PGCert Primary Care is a new award, introduced in 2021 for Regsitered Nurses moving into General Practice roles. The recommendations of the NHS Long Term Plan (2019) placed general practice and primary care services at the heart of delivery of healthcare, with Health Education England (HEE) have making a commitment to developing career pathways within the primary care sector for nurses and allied health professionals to support them to transition into these roles and develop a workforce skilled and equipped for the delivery of care. The PGCert Primary care has been developed with input from HEE and and the QNI and provides an academic award for the General Practice Nursing fellowship offered to newly qualified nurses transitioning into general practice roles. The award however is available for both newly qualified and expereinced nurses.

GPN Foundations Course - Level 6 and 7

This innovative course will enable the development of knowledge, deeper learning and understanding of the General Practice Nurse role for nurses new to primary care and wish to further enhance their clinical practice and leadership in their role.

This fully funded unit is an excellent opportunity for any nurse, recently employed in General Practice and working within the Wessex region to develop skills in the management of clients as a General Practice Nurse. Taught by Clinical Experts the course also includes an exploration of the context of Practice Nursing and of Primary Care, Clinical Governance, QoF and the role of Clinical Commissioning groups.
