This virtual course will be delivered over a Zoom platform and is for any clinician working in primary care who will be undertaking ear examination and possible irrigation in the workplace. It will introduce the theory of ear care, exploring the anatomy and physiology of the ear and common ear presentations.
There will be discussion and demonstration of the use of the otoscope, with further exploration of the principles and practice of ear irrigation.
The clinician will receive an electronic workbook reference resource with a competency framework included and an NMC registrant will be required to oversee the experiencial learning and competency sign off within the workplace.
Aims and Objectives
- To provide the knowledge and skills required for the procedure of irrigating an ear to facilitate wax removal
- To appreciate differential ear presentations that require alternative management
- To identify ‘red flags’ and sources of referral in ear care management
