The National Standards of immunisation states that:
“Provision of a regular and ongoing programme of updates for those HCSAs who have completed the initial immunisation training should be seen as a priority. A minimum of once yearly updates is recommended”.
This virtual half day session will provide evidence of a yearly update in immunisations and include a competency framework for your Portfolio. It will be interactive and informative with case studies /an assessment quiz and certificate of completion.

- Current legislation for HCAs providing vaccinations
- Revisit PSD / delegation / competency / documentation
- Understanding the advancing HCA role and its limitations in practice
- Best practice (safe and effective / high standards of care)
- Revisit competency – National Immunisation standards – to include competency framework
- Accountability and responsibility
Vaccination Update
This session will include:
- An update of the current vaccinations being administered by HCAs in practice.
- The difference between innate, passive and active immunity
- The basic immune response to a vaccine
- The differences between a live and an inactivated vaccine
- Herd immunity
- Immunosuppression and its impact on the individual and the vaccination uptake
- Precautions that should be taken after administering a live vaccine
