Doppler, Compression and Wound Care Refresher

This half day practical course is aimed at the experienced/competent GPN or HCA already working within Primary Care Leg Ulcer and Wound care arena. The focus is to understand, enhance and support good practice by sharing new ideas and current thinking.

Examples of what will be covered in the course:

  • Doppler update- automated machines, who should do the doppler, when to compress, unreliable results etc
  • Compression update- how to choose what compression, when to doppler, DVT, chronic oedema etc
  • Wound Care update – formulary update, new products, wound biofilm/infection management etc

 The course will use a practical based approach to the latest key points on the subjects using core national and international current/latest guidelines, new practical ideas/skills to consider for wound care/compression products plus practical hints, and tips.  
Discuss formulary usage to checkback on wound/compression products, including  opportunity for discussion and sharing ideas and experiences via the practical demonstrations and written guidance.  

The course will not be part of a pathway to competency as attendees should already be competent, but the Certificate of Attendance can be added to your learning achievement portfolio and personnel record.

Learning Outcomes

Resources, core documents and support via email will be available from the trainer post study day.

The practitioner will be able to:

  • Understand and incorporate relevant new learning to their practice regarding Leg Ulcer and Wound Care
  • Use the course group work to discuss any clinical issues relevant to the topics with each other and the trainer
  • Access the evidence base/resources and learning to support  changes in practice
