Blood Pressure and ECG: An update for HCAs and NAs

This half day update is for any HCA or NA who is currently recording blood pressures and ECGs within practice. The session will explore current practice and update guidance for both practical skills, providing competency frameworks for personal learning and evidence of CPD.

The will be highly interactive with quizzes and group work to encourage discussion and stimulate learning.

Learning Outcomes

Blood Pressure:

  • To understand the normal ranges for BP, recognising abnormal readings and knowing the ‘red flags’.
  • Revisit the technique for recording BP: manual versus automated.
  • Understand the lifestyle risk factors for hypertensive disease.
  • Explore health promotion.

ECG

  • Refresh A&P of the cardiac system.
  • To understand the physiology in relation to ECG recordings.
  • To accurately arrange and record a standard trace 12 lead ECG.
